A Tour of Stevens IS
Recently, the Think Joule team headed over to Stevens IS for our long awaited tour with the best rep an office could ask for, Tyler Ashcraft, seen above presiding over the well ordered chaos of the press floor. Over the past few years our studio has developed a great relationship with Stevens IS who’s plied us with helpful consultations, copious samples, delicious pastry, and fantastic finished pieces. Tyler has taken it upon himself to lead us through the production of many projects, including Kiln, LifeworksNW, and Gerding Edlen, and a tour was the next step in a hands-on view of the ever-evolving world of print production.
Upon arrival, we were ushered behind the deceptively calm front office to the fast pace of the ink and paper scented printing floor that comprises the heartbeat of the Stevens IS workspace. There we were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the numerous machines whose very purpose is to give life to high design. We spent our time learning what each one did and discussing the age-old printing questions; digital vs. offset, the benefits of different bindery methods, printing on materials other than paper, and more.
Overall a fine time was had by the Joulers, visiting not just the place that produces so many of the pieces we put our heart and soul into for our clients but the people that make it happen. The Stevens brothers, Rich and Dave, who have put together such a great business; Nick and Morgan, who have so carefully handled the logistics of our orders; and of course Tyler, our guide and walking talking encyclopedia of print knowledge. We appreciate the extra mile they’ve always gone to for us and look forward to what our partnership will create in the future.
